    Legal experience

  • I have been preparing medico-legal reports for various Courts for 15 years. I am conversant with CPR.I have worked on different types of legal cases, including personal injury, occupational stress, mental health tribunals etc.

    Geographical area of work :- All of UK. I have consulting rooms in Oxford and Reading. I am based in Oxford with ready access to London, Reading, Swindon, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Birmingham and Leamington Spa.

  • I have formerly worked as a prison psychiatrist at HMP Woodhill, and had prepared several reports for Magistrate Courts, Crown Courts, Probation reports and Coroners’ cases as a result of this appointment.

  • I was a consultant psychiatrist in the Thomas Pritchard Unit, Isham House at St Andrews Hospital in Northampton. The Thomas Pritchard Unit specialised in patients struggling with Substance misuse. I worked in St Andrews as clinical lead for TPU from the spring of 2003 to 2007.

  • I was an NHS Consultant in general adult psychiatry with a special interest in rehabilitation in Livingston in Scotland for 5 years up until Nov 2002.

  • I worked for a year as an NHS general adult psychiatrist in South Oxfordshire. Thereafter, I did some locum work. I have also worked in the last few years in occupational psychiatry in the RAF, and in prison psychiatry.

    Terms and Conditions

  • I am happy to have a preliminary telephone conversation about a case without charge.

  • My fee for the preparation of a report is based on an hourly rate of £175 including VAT for the interview, inspection of documentation and preparation of a report. An uncomplicated report takes up to a maximum of 8 hours. I am always happy to negotiate so if you are unsure feel free to call me on 07791335591 or e-mail me on ianwcoffey@gmail.com

  • My fee for attendance at any conference is £200 per hour including VAT, and including travelling time. My fee for attending court is £1200 per day including VAT.

  • In the event of cancellation of a court hearing within four weeks of the agreed date or dates, a cancellation fee of £250 will be charged. If a court attendance is cancelled within two working days of the agreed date or dates, the full fees with be charged.

  • I am able to offer an examination appointment within 14 days of receipt of instructions. In an urgent case I maybe prepared to see a client at shorter notice if needed. I contract to deliver the report within 14 days of having examined your client, assuming that further sources of information are not required.

  • I am able to visit clients at home. This can be helpful for clients suffering ongoing physical discomfort for example in the wake of road traffic accidents.


    All Fees are subject to VAT from 1st of January 2009
